Sexual Dimorphism in Permanent Maxillary Canines
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this study was to evaluate the sexual dimorphism in permanent maxillary canines among Kosovo-Albanian population. The study was conducted on 204 dental students, selected from Dental School, Medical Faculty in Prishtina. The mesiodistal and buccolingual diameters of the permanent maxillary canines were measured in dental casts using electronic digital calliper Boss, Germany, which has an accuracy ± 0.01 mm. The descriptive statistics and t-test were calculated. The results showed that in Kosovo-Albanian population mesiodistal and buccolingual diameter of the permanent maxillary canines was larger in males than in females and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.0001). The buccolingual diameters of maxillary canines shoved greater percentage of sexual dimorphism (6.72%) than mesiodistal diameter (3.71%). The study showed that maxillary permanent canines exhibiting significant sexual dimorphism.

متن کاملA study of sexual dimorphism in permanent mandibular canines and its implications in forensic investigations.
Teeth are well preserved after death and they exhibit remarkable sexual dimorphism. Hence, they provide excellent materials for forensic investigations intended for identification of sex. Present study was undertaken on permanent mandibular canines of 90 male and 90 female subjects of age group 17-23 years. The mesiodistal width for right and left mandibular canines and intercanine distance wer...

Background and objectives: Identification, an aspect of forensic anthropology, is the recognition of an individual based on the physical characteristics unique to the individual. Among the four main attributes i.e. gender, age, stature and ethnic or racial background of an individual’s biological identity, sex determination is usually the first step in the human identification process. Teeth ca...
متن کاملMetric Sexual Dimorphism in Permanent Canines
The degree of sexual dimorphism of permanent human canines in cervical buccolingual and mesiodistal diameters was investigated through discriminant analyses. Measurements were recorded in 254 canines from 85 individuals in four populations and sex was estimated with multifactorial morphological methods. Age was similar assessed in order to rule it out as a factor. Tooth and body size were contr...
